Preschool in Park Royal – preparing children for school

Our Preschool Room at Little Tigers Nursery provides a vibrant, engaging and supportive environment for children who are preparing for their next big step: starting school.

We believe that preschool should be a place where children feel confident, curious and excited to learn. Through a balance of structured activities and child-led play, we help children develop the academic, social and emotional skills they need for a successful transition to primary school.

My son was breastfed for 16 months and always by my side so I was very nervous sending him to nursery but I knew how important it was. I viewed multiple nurseries and the day I viewed Little Tigers Day Nursery and Preschool I knew it was the one and called to get my son a place the same day! The nursery is very clean the staff are all so lovely and are very good with communication and keeping us updated. I feel happy safe and secure with my son in the nursery and he loves attending this nursery he doesn't want the day to end! I 100% recommend Little Tigers Nursery.

Preparing children for school readiness

School readiness is about much more than learning numbers and letters. In our Preschool Room, we focus on helping children develop the confidence, independence and resilience needed to thrive in a school environment.

We support children to:

  • Recognise letters and sounds

  • Develop early writing skills

  • Understand numbers and counting

  • Follow instructions

  • Work cooperatively with others

  • Manage their own personal care needs

  • Build confidence in new situations

Learning through play and exploration

Our Preschool Room follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring that learning is both purposeful and enjoyable.

Children take part in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Early literacy through phonics, storytelling and mark-making.

  • Mathematics through counting, sorting and problem-solving.

  • Science through experiments and exploration.

  • Creative arts through painting, music and drama.

  • Social skills through group projects and cooperative play.

  • Physical development through outdoor activities and fine motor exercises.

We plan activities around children’s interests, making learning relevant, exciting and memorable.

Developing independence and confidence

In preschool, children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for themselves and their learning. We help them develop independence by encouraging them to:

  • Dress themselves

  • Use the toilet independently

  • Serve their own meals where appropriate

  • Choose activities

  • Resolve simple conflicts

  • Express their thoughts and feelings

These skills are essential for building confidence and preparing children for the routines of primary school.

Outdoor learning and exploration

Our preschool children benefit from access to our outdoor space, where they can explore, investigate and learn through hands-on experiences.

Outdoor learning helps children to:

  • Develop physical coordination

  • Build teamwork skills

  • Explore nature and science concepts

  • Improve problem-solving abilities

  • Gain confidence through new challenges
